The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao

Topic One
Assignment #2
K.Gutierrez
1st Pd.

In the novel "The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" the author, Junot Diaz, uses imagery to describe how Lola grew up. She was always there when her mother needed her but still got treated uncompellingly awful. (You don't know what it's like to grow up with a mother who never said a positive thing in her life, not about her children or the world, who was always suspicious, always tearing you down and splitting your dreams straight down the seams.) Lola just wanted to enjoy her life. Doing that, in the eyes of other people, meant being disrespetful to her mother. All Lola wanted to do was be free and  not feel trapped by her mother. Lola needed to understand that she was not of age to be independant and leave her home. Her mother Beli needed to understand that Lola was not there to be treated as a slave, she was her daughter and not a personal assistant. Being young and independant is not an easy thing to do, but being at home with ones parent and disrespecting them is not the right thing either. Lola needed to understand that soon enough she would  be able to be free and live her life. She was torn between her mother and her own self. Both of the characters needed to work on themselves and there relationship. There is nothing more important than a mothers love and that was something Lola did not get.
